Palm Cove Wharf

Text extracts from emails from Palm Cove, Queensland, Australia

“There are only positive things to say about our wharf/jetty. Get one!”

“The jetty it has been of a major advantage to Palm Cove to
have tours pick up from Palm Cove rather than transfering into Cairns for
each tour. The guests are more likely to book a tour that originates from
Palm Cove than transfer into Cairns and waste up to 2 hours of the day.
The jetty in conjunction with the beach has made Palm Cove a beautiful and
popular setting for weddings.”

“The wharf serves many purposes, it is great just to walk along during the day & chat to the people fishing or have a fish. At night after a restaurant meal it is very romantic to have a stroll along before heading back to your resort. Quick Silver do transfers up to Port Douglas & also out to the reef & Green Island cruises have a service to Green Island daily. It is also great for the locals to moor their boat short term before heading out for a day of fishing. I couldn’t imagine Palm Cove without it now.”

“In regards to the Palm Cove jetty it has been a great asset to have the jetty from a cruise operator's perspective. It enables us to give a service with boat transfer to Port Douglas rather than coach both ways. Since the coastline is spectacular it allows our passengers to see the coast road from two perspectives and is a key selling benefit for us. The hotels in Palm Cove also see it has a more "personnel" service for their guests going to the Barrier Reef as we depart from "their" beach. This allows them ownership to an extent and we have a great rapport with the hotels.

Not really sure of the destination and what you offer but if it is a popular weekend destination - cruise to Takapuna for a day on the beach and restaurants (like the Manly Ferry in Sydney and people go for the day to Manly).

Once again you could do events such as a push bike rally - catch a boat (with bike) to Takapuna and bike back to Auckland. I am sure you can come up with a lot of reasons/ events etc. for the jetty.”

“The Jetty (that's what it is called here) made a huge impact to Palm Cove. Locals and guests fish from there and now Tourism Operators can get their tourists on board in Palm Cove directly saving everybody money and time. Tourists welcome very much the jetty. They can get up in the morning 1.5 hours later leaving them more time for a nice breakfast or a walk, shopping etc.

It all adds additional money to the local businesses.

It is great for the environment too. Corals quickly got established around the poles and the fish life is great. I'm frequently scuba diving on the jetty and enjoy it very much.”

“The Wharf adds another feature to the attraction of visiting/holidaying in Palm Cove. For visitors, it means that they can be picked up locally - and don't have to endure a long coach ride to Cairns or Port Douglas - when all they want to do is go to the reef. The Quicksilvers Fastcats also offer a much more leisurely trip to Port Douglas for daytrippers (and locals) rather than the coach. Fishermen (adults and kids) use the jetty at their own leisure, and it offers an alternative strolling/meeting place for locals and visitors.”

“The Palm Cove Jetty for great fishing is very handy (and enjoy the fish you caught in the evening on our BBQ). The jetty brought great joy to Palm Cove (benefiting residents and tourism operators/hotels). We never look back and couldn't live without the jetty anymore.

Not to forget- Palm Cove won the award "Australia's Cleanest Beach".

“I could only recommend to get a jetty in your lovely part of the world too. It is a great feature and has had no negative impact at all to our community.”
